An eight-year veteran in parkour, gymnastics, martial arts, and strength and conditioning, Rafe Kelley is a pioneer of movement in the United States. He cofounded Parkour Visions, the first parkour gym on the U.S.’ West Coast, and has been certified in CrossFit, and by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Red Bull Art of Motion Santorini was huge this weekend. The weather gods sent some beautiful sunshine, and the freerunners delivered in fine fashion. Eighteen competitors took to the rooftops, with three of them being women. Santorini’s previous two-time winner, Pasha Petkuns, was usurped as the “Santorini Kid,” and the United States seriously came to compete. At UP, we don’t stand on either side of the debate on competitions, but we do make it our policy to report on any and all events that result in a net increase in exposure for parkour/freerunning.
Its that time of year again where hordes of international parkour athletes and freerunners descend upon the small honeymoon island of Santorini, Greece. This marks the first Red Bull ‘Art of Motion’ competition this year, and its interesting to see how big a gap there has been since the previous AOM event in Santorini last year. What is apparent is how this event is now spanning multiple days, and the lineup of attendees is larger than ever.
